Viterbo, cities of Popes with ancient etruscan origins. We would like to underline the importance of the Town Hall, the Podestà Palace, Farnese Palace, the Sun Lorenzo Duomo and its square, the Popes Palace and Loggia.
Known as the City of Popes, Viterbo has been the pontificial headquarters instead of Rome, from 1257 to 1281, to avoid upraising and revolts. Several Popes decided to choose it as their abode like Urbano IV, Clemente IV , Gregorio X, Innocenzo V, Adriano V, Giovanni XXI, Niccolò III and Martino IV. The Popes Palace and Loggia real proofs.
